W-4 Calculator and Paycheck Withholding Estimator

Estimate the federal and state withholding you need, then turn the result into a practical W-4 adjustment. Account for two jobs, a spouse, dependents, bonuses, RSUs, and 1099 income.

How the estimator works

  1. Enter your expected income, filing status, pay frequency, and withholding to date.
  2. Add other jobs, bonuses, equity compensation, dependents, or side income.
  3. Review the projected tax gap, safe-harbor target, and suggested W-4 Step 4(c) amount.

What about “W4 calculator 2022” and “W4 calculator 2023”?

Those are historical tax-year searches. The W-4 form is still the right form, but the tax brackets, standard deduction, credits, and withholding tables change. Choose the tax year that matches the paychecks you are planning, rather than carrying an old 2022 or 2023 estimate into a current return.

Does a calculator replace Form W-4 instructions?

No. Treat the estimate as a planning aid and confirm the final entries against the current IRS Form W-4 and your payroll department. A result can also be affected by pre-tax benefits, payroll limits, and employer treatment of supplemental wages.
